Sweet Layla has already overcome more than her share of challenges, and through it all, she’s never stopped being the loving, gentle girl we know and adore.
In November 2025, while doing what she loved most—running a race—Layla suffered a broken leg. Thanks to Greyhound Rescue & Rehab, she received the surgery she needed and recovered beautifully with the devoted care of her wonderful trainers. By April, she had healed completely and all of her implants were removed. She was ready for the next chapter of her life.
That chapter began in May when Layla made the trip from West Virginia to New York and was adopted into what we hoped would be her forever home. Sadly, despite having previous greyhound experience, her adopter found that Layla struggled with separation anxiety, and after just a month she was returned to our care.
We knew this sweet girl deserved another chance, so she moved into a foster home where she’s been thriving. With guidance from our veterinarian and a little medication to help ease her anxiety while her foster mom gradually worked on short absences, Layla has made wonderful progress.
We do believe she’ll be happiest in a home where she won’t be left alone for long stretches of time and where another greyhound—or even two!—can keep her company. She truly enjoys having canine friends around.
Layla is an absolute sweetheart. She’s friendly and affectionate, walks beautifully on leash, gets along with dogs of all sizes, and has a playful side too—she absolutely loves her toys!
What Layla needs now is a family who understands that adjusting takes time and is willing to continue helping her build confidence when left alone. In return, you’ll gain a loyal, loving companion who has so much affection to give.
Could you be the family she’s been waiting for? Layla is ready to fill your home with love.
