Sitchy

Cats: No
Sometimes life doesn’t seem to play fair, and that’s certainly been the case for our sweet little Sitchy. At just 2 years old, she’s already faced more than her share of challenges, but you would never know it by the way she greets each day—with a happy heart, a playful spirit, and so much love to give.
When we welcomed Sitchy into foster care, we knew something wasn’t quite right with her left eye. After a visit to the outstanding ophthalmology team at the Animal Medical Center in NYC, she was diagnosed with Pannus, an immune-mediated eye condition that causes the body to attack the cornea. Left untreated, it can eventually lead to blindness. The good news is that with lifelong medication and regular care, the condition can be managed. While only her left eye is currently affected, both eyes are being treated to help keep them healthy.
The best part? Sitchy has absolutely no idea she has a medical condition. She’s far too busy enjoying life! She loves to play, soaks up every scratch and pet she can get, and has the sweetest, most endearing personality that makes everyone who meets her fall in love.
Like many retired racers, she’s been learning all about life as a pet. She can be a little shy about doing her business while on leash, so a securely fenced yard would make life much easier for her. She’s already made wonderful progress and continues to gain confidence every day. There is one thing we do know for certain—Sitchy thinks cats are way too exciting, so a feline-free home is a must.
On paper, it might seem like Sitchy has a few strikes against her: a lifelong eye condition, she’d love a fenced yard, would welcome another hound for security but no cats. But anyone lucky enough to know her will tell you those are tiny details compared to the joy she’ll bring to her forever family.
Somewhere out there is the person who will look past the checkboxes and see what we see—a young, happy girl with an enormous heart, ready to love with everything she’s got. We know that family is out there, and when they find Sitchy, they’ll wonder how they ever lived without her. And to that special family, we will provide 3 months of her medication. ❤️
